The Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT) is a
standardized test and is a precursor to the SAT. It not only provides the
student with a practice version of the SAT, but should the student do well
enough, could qualify the student for scholarships.
Like the SAT, the PSAT/NMSQT measures:
- Critical reading skills
- Math problem-solving skills
- Writing skills
Some good reasons for taking the PSAT/NMSQT include:
- Student receives feedback outlining strengths and weaknesses. The student can then focus on some of their problem areas in preparation of the SAT.
- Student may qualify for the National Merit Scholarship
- Student can compare their performance to other students taking the PSAT
