There are several reasons why a family may want to appeal a college's financial
award package. Some of those reasons might include:
- financial circumstances have changed since financial aid applications were completed
- there is additional financial hardship (e.g. medical bills) than what could be
reported on the FAFSA or other financial aid applications
- award is not characteristic of aid given to students with similar GPA, SAT/ACT
scores, etc.
- award is not as good as award received from another similar school, but the
school is the student's first choice.
We help the families to determine if there is merit in filing a letter of appeal
with a particular college. No one wants to run the risk of asking for more aid
if the school by their standards feel they have already more than generously
awarded your student.
As part of our services, we assist in the appeal process of an unfair offer by
consulting with the client on the type of appeal letter to write. We also coach
parents on how to discuss the appeal with a college financial aid officer.
