Some colleges still require a college interview as part of the acceptance
criteria. Many do not. Even if the school does not require an interview, you as
the student are welcome to request to meet with any and all of the appropriate
offices (admissions, financial aid, special academic services, coaches, academic
departments, etc.). This is an important decision for everyone, and asking a
school for an interview shows them how seriously you are taking this decision.
It also lets them know them know that you are very interested in them.
The student doesn't always have to make a special trip to the college for the
interview. Many schools have alumni throughout the country who perform these
interviews on the college's behalf. The college will locate someone for you.
Whatever type of interview has been arranged, the best advice is Be Prepared!
Here's a list of some ithings to remember for your interview:
- Learn all that you can about the college
- create a list of questions
- Take an unofficial transcript, list of your extracurricular activities and test scores
- Dress appropriately
- be on time
- get the name, address and phone number of those you meet with so you can write thank you notes
After the interview, make notes about what you liked and didn't like about the visit and college
while it's still fresh in your mind. Be sure to tour the local community as well
as the campus.
