There are some families who readily accept a college's acceptance offer before
the student receives any information regarding the awards in financial aid and
scholarships. Either they don't think they qualify for any aid or they're just
happy to be accepted by their number one choice and they want to reply as
quickly as possible!
It's worth waiting, though, for all of the award letters to come in. They
normally arrive separately and some time after the acceptance letters.
Since included in our Student Positioning services we identify schools that are
more likely to offer aid to your student, we advise waiting for all the award
letters before notifying any of the schools as your decision. We then can help
analyze the awards based on college's past history, the students academic
achievements and other factors. We can consult with the family on whether or not
it's approriate to appeal to any of the colleges for additional aid. It is much
more beneficial to appeal to a college before telling them of your
decision. However, always obey the deadlines!
As with the application process, deadlines in the acceptance period are extremely
important! If a student does not respond to a college by their deadlines, a
student might see their acceptance or award overturned.
